A quick Chat with a Champ
The 2017 season is coming to a close, and it surely was one for the history books. Especially for one player that stood above all else with no less than thirteen tournament victories and an additional ten podium appearances. We had a little chat with Ricky about his season and what’s to come.
With some perspective on your 2017 season, what do you think of it?
I am happy with my overall performance in 2017. I think it was my best season yet. 2017 has definitely been a crazy schedule for me I did tons of clinics in a bunch of new countries and states. I’m glad to have done this and promote my sponsors all over the globe.
What goals did you have for 2017 and did you reach them?
My main goal was to win player of the year and go back to back world champion. I am so thankful for my support system and sponsors for making this possible. Me being able to meet both of these goals is motivation for me to continue working hard to reach my goals each new season.
What achievement in 2017 are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my back to back world championship wins. A close second would have to be winning Player of the Year making it my 3rd Player of the Year award of my career.
What happened in your bag during 2017? Any news discs in there or discs you learned to use in new ways?
I really enjoyed the addition of the Gold Line Pure to my bag for a straight putter I can trust off the tee.
I understand that you just came back from a well needed vacation. How was it and what’s your off-season plan now?
Yes, usually after a long season I will take a couple weeks off to regroup mentally and physically. During these periods I still run and stretch and stay in full disc golf shape. As far as the playing portion I will go hardcore practice mode for about 2 months working and training on what I feel like I need to work on the most.
Have you started to look at the 2018 tournaments?
I haven’t had time to plan my 2018 schedule quite yet. I know I usually like to plan on playing around 20-25 tournaments.
You are getting a new signature disc in 2018. What are your thoughts about the new fairway driver Explorer?
I’m very excited about my new Explorer disc. I knew as soon as I tested it out that it is going to be my go to backhand fairway driver. It has a smooth release with a consistent controlled finish ideal for the straight fairway driver slot in my bag.
Thanks Ricky for that quick chat. We can’t hardly wait for next season.
