McCray turbos to 3rd at HOFC

This weekend the NT Tour Final, The Ed Headrick Disc Golf Hall of Fame Classic, took place in Appling, Georgia. JohnE McCray battled it out with the young guns and finished tied for 3rd after making a huge turbo putt on the very last hole. We had a quick talk with JohnE.

How was this tournament for you?
– I feel this tournament played out well for me, JohnE says. Of course I wanted that first place but at my age being able to compete and to also hang with these younger guys makes me feel great. I believe I played so well because I know this course and love the challenge of it’s teeth.

And that eagle with a turbo putt at the very last hole? How did you do that?
– Off the tee I threw my trusty Enforcer, my 2nd shot I threw my Fury as a roller and then a Shield into the basket. That turbo putt in 18 was huge for me.

Do you have any tips for people who want to learn the turbo putt?
– I treat my turbo putts like a baseball throw. It’s exactly the same body mechanics. There is a free video on turbo putting on my website as well if anyone would like to watch.

Which discs were most important for you?
– My Ballista Pro was certainly getting me off the tee and far down the fairway a lot. My Cutlass loves to play in the woods. It’s great for me as it curves its way through tight gaps. Of course the Shield needs a mention as I use it for both straight shots, approaches and putts, JohnE says.
