NGT #11: Virginia is for disc golf lovers
Next Generation Tour Stop #11 – Loriella Park, Fredericksburg, VA – 9/10/2016 – by David Feldberg
Our quickest event on the NG tour to sell out was #11 at Loriella Park in Virginia . There was a waiting list by May, these people are so excited to play disc golf tournaments. I am familiar with this park as this was a stop on the old WinniCrew tours. I was excited to get back and see the people and the course as this was always one of my favorite stops on the tour.
I had help from clubs before but the Loriella group was amazing. Bob Cannon, Jeff Shattuck, and John Biscoe were more than helpful. They helped with set up, courses, scores, etc. I barely did anything. I would love to live in an area where the club is so well organized. Jeff also hosted Synthya and I. He and his wife were great hosts. What a nice group of people they took such good care of of us and we would be honored to work with them in the future.
It was a very hot day with the heat index over 100 degrees. In the advanced men’s division Alex Bush came out firing a 1012 rated round to take a commanding 4 stroke lead. Chris Pyle played well and carded an Ace to be in the lead group. But the heat got to Chris and Alex and Ben Bradbury carded the lowest second round and captured the title over Nathan Shoemaker who matched his second round of 54. Both squeezed by Alex and Chris who tied for third place.
In other play Synthya Whitaker won her first NG tour event with a one stroke win over local favorite Kelly “kat” Douglas. The other close battles were Niki Bostic ( intermediate women’s) and James Cady ( intermediate men’s) winning by just one stroke. Robby Kennon (Adv masters) and Tommy Douglas (Rec Men) won their divisions handily by four strokes each.
Overall it was a great day of disc golf and we appreciate the support in the Virginia area. They showed us that Virginia really is for disc golf lovers!! We will make sure Virginia is a stop on next years NG tour!!
