Czech DiscGolf Championship 2017

The premiere event of the Czech discgolf season 2017 took place on June 17-18 in the small town of Kadaň which is located in North-West Bohemia. The layout of the local 18 hole course had been changed a little to properly challenge the 86 players who competed for the Czech champion title in six different categories (MPO, FPO, MPM, MPG, MJ1 and MJ3).

Apart from the challenging and technical 2280m long par 62 course, the players also had to fight some strong and gusty winds during the two opening rounds on Saturday. At the end of the first day, Michael Rádl held the lead in the Open divison. Three different players from the junior division (MJ1) had tied for the best round of the day with 57 strokes. That same evening a few players competed in various mini games; a putting contest, a roll CTP and a mountain distance contest.

After the 3rd round on Sunday morning, the field where divided into 20 semifinalists for the Open division and final cards in all the other categories. With 52 strokes, junior Jakub Knapek had the best round of the weekend. Jakub Novotny, the 2015 champion (who had made a comeback after a long injury break), secured a place on the final card, after shooting the best score on the nine hole semifinal round.

The numerous spectators following the Open division final witnessed a dramatic fight to the very end. A couple of throws behind the leading Krystof Novak, a fierce fight for second place between Jakub Novotny and Michael Rádl tickled the crowds. In the end, Rádl secured second place while Novotny tied for 3rd with Jan Veselý.

On the sidelines during the final rounds a putting contest were organized for the local children, and all participants were awarded with L64° markers.

In the finals, all category leaders defended their positions and the 2017 Czech Discgolf Champions are:

MPO: Krystof Novak (Discmania, proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Team)
FPO: Eva Kralova (proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Team)
MPM: Jiri Brozek (ULTIMO)
MPG: Karel Hlava (proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Team)
MJ1: Jakub Knapek (proDiscgolf.cz Albatros Team)
MJ3: Martin Stipek (DG Eagles Unicov)

Latitude 64° Team member Lukáš Filandr (regarded as one of the best Czech players), was unfortunately not able to take part in this tournament, and therefore missed the chance to defend his title from last year in the Open division.

Big thanks to the local club DGC Ultimo Kadan which made sure the course was perfectly prepared and our thanks also goes out to CADG, the city of Kadaň and everyone involved in making this tournament a success. Thank you from Latitude 64°.
