Ricky Wysocki: 2x World Champion

At Augusta, Georgia, the 24th of June, Ricky Wysocki on Team Latitude 64° won his second World Championship title in a row.

With his Worlds title in Emporia 2016 and a strong 2017 season with lots of tournament wins and strong performances, Ricky Wysocki was considered the man to beat. After round one (-8) he found himself at fifth place. But the rest of the 2017 Pro Worlds journey was a showcase of Wysocki dominance. Hot rounds in round two (-12) and three (-13) put Ricky eight shots ahead of his closest competitor.

A lightning delay in the middle of the final round could have rattled some nerves. Especially as 4x World Champion Paul McBeth surged to second place and started to close the gap on Wysocki. Then Ricky showed determination and focus, birdied six holes in a row after the delay. No one could catch up after that birdie streak.

After the round he wanted to thank his family members who travelled from nearby Fort Mill, South Carolina, to watch and cheer. And as it concluded, also celebrate his second Pro Worlds title.

“It wouldn’t be possible without all their support,” Wysocki said of his built-in cheering section. “My brother-in-law helps me with all the off-the-course stuff, managed everything. I’m able to go out and practice and travel the world and play at the highest level. He’s just one of them, but all of them mean something and have their own place. It’s really awesome to be able to share the experience with them because last year was so far away. I feel like I just kinda made up for them not being here last year.” (quote from Disc Golf Ultiworld article)
