The Next Generation tour stop number two was in Lakeport California at Buckingham Golf course. With a full field of players it was set to be a strong competition. The weather was comfortable , but the wind was strong all day causing lots of moving around amongst the leaders of each Division. In the Advanced and Intermediate the winner would not come from the leader card. The event featured a clinic from David Feldberg and a players pack valued well above the entry fee.
The first round the players attacked the short tees, Brian Caudle, Mark Tennyson, and Ryan Correia lead the way in the advanced men’s with scores of -6 (54). Four other players were within two strokes including Kolte Breck of Oregon who managed a -1 (61) 976 rated round from the long tees in very wind conditions to win by one stroke over Kenny Glassman the 2011 Amateur World Champ who has recently moved to California.
In the other divisions Kimberlyn Moffett won the Advanced Women’s, local and course designer Andrew Burbee took down the Advanced Masters handily, And Jeff Knudsen won his second Next Generation tour event claiming the Advanced Grandmasters title.
Jonathon Beck won the Junior division and Dominic Bickford claimed the recreational trophy. In the second largest division intermediate men’s Chris Kelly matched the best round of the day with the 976 rated -1(61) to come from behind and win. He was 5 strokes of the lead after the first round, and with his round he catapulted to a five stroke victory.
Amazing experience at the ball golf course
It was an amazing experience being able to play on such s beautiful course and we have to thank Andrew Burbee and the Buckingham Golf club for allowing us to use there fantastic facility. Playing on ball golf or private courses really should be the future of tournament play. SynErgy art came through again with beautiful custom trophies that were the hit if the event. In the Next Generation series with consistent play Robert Craig and Synthya Whitaker of Arizona have the early lead in the advanced men’s and women’s divisions. Jeff Knudsen has a commanding lead with two wins in the advanced GM division. All the other divisions are very tight.
Next event in Texas
The next event is Down the Rabbit Hole this weekend in Abilene, Texas. JohnE McCray will host his first Next Generation Tour Event. We will update the series standings after the third event this weekend. Good luck and have fun.
